Dr Laura Wang

MBBS, BSc(Med), MS (Thyroid), FRACS, PhD (Thyroid)

Endocrine and Head & Neck Surgeon
and Reconstructive Microvascular Surgeon

Dr Laura Wang is a highly experienced, fellowship-trained Endocrine and Head and Neck Surgeon, and Reconstructive Microvascular Surgeon with more than 10+ years of experience treating disorders of the head and neck region.

She has a sub-specialised interest in thyroid disease and thyroid cancer surgery.

Dr Wang completed her medical education at the University of New South Wales and then went on to complete General Surgery training (endocrine, and head and neck specialisation) across NSW, working in busy, high-volume, tertiary training public hospitals. During her specialist training, Dr Wang completed a Master of Surgery Degree at the University of Sydney, focused on thyroid cancer.

Dr Wang achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2018, graduating as a consultant specialist surgeon. She was then successfully selected to undertake further sub-specialised training on the highly competitive, internationally acclaimed fellowship training program at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, which is the oldest cancer hospital in the world (founded in 1884) and is continuously ranked in the top 2 cancer hospital in the USA.

At the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Dr Wang undertook dual fellowship training programs, each taking 1-year to complete, covering both head and neck oncology, as well as microvascular reconstruction surgery. Dr Wang was the first surgeon to be dual-trained in both head and neck cancer surgery, as well as microvascular reconstructive surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre and is one of a handful of dual-trained head and neck surgeons in Australia. The ability to train at high-volume international centres of excellence exposes a surgeon to a wide range of common and complex presentations, and allowed Dr Wang to further hone her operative and clinical expertise in treating tumours of the head and neck region.

Dr Wang has a keen interest in medical research and is a leader in her field with over 30+ peer reviewed publications in the area of head and neck oncology. She completed a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) on thyroid cancer prognosis and management and regularly speaks at national and international conferences.

Dr Wang is now based permanently in Sydney and welcomes both public and private patients.
